Acetone

INCI

Acetone

SUMMARY

Acetone is a chemical solvent used mostly in nail products to dissolve nail polish, gels and glues. It is not a typical ingredient in cosmetic products because of its potential to cause skin irritation, but may be used in small amounts in formulas like makeup removers, creams and lotions, to dissolve or blend other ingredients. In these cases, acetone is carefully formulated to decrease its potential side effects on skin.

ORIGIN

Acetone can also be found in small amounts in natural sources like certain trees and plants, but is primarily manufactured.

SKIN TOLERANCE

Acetone is generally tolerated on the skin in small amounts, but prolonged or repeated exposure can lead to irritation and potential skin damage.
