Azelaic Acid

INCI

Azelaic Acid

SUMMARY

Azelaic acid is a naturally occurring dicarboxylic acid found in wheat, barley and rye. It's used to treat acne because it can reduce inflammation and growth of acne-causing bacteria. It’s also used to address conditions like hyperpigmentation and rosacea because it can block melanin production and improve overall skin texture and tone.

ORIGIN

Azelaic acid is an organic compound that can be found in various sources like grains like wheat, barley and rye. In skincare and pharmaceutical products, azelaic acid is generally created in laboratories to ensure its purity and consistency.

SKIN TOLERANCE

Azelaic acid is generally well-tolerated on most skin, but some may experience mild irritation or redness, so it's recommended to start with a lower concentration and gradually increase usage.
