Lactic Acid

INCI

Lactic Acid

SUMMARY

Lactic acid is a type of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) sourced from fermented milk, fruits and plants known for its ability to exfoliate skin. It's commonly used to remove dead skin cells in skincare products like toners, serums and peels. It's also used in anti-aging formulas to help improve skin texture, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and promote a more even skin tone. Lactic acid is sometimes included in acne treatments to create a smoother, brighter complexion.

ORIGIN

Lactic acid can be naturally sourced from fermented milk products, fruits and plants or it can be created in laboratories for use in skincare and cosmetic formulas.

SKIN TOLERANCE

Lactic acid is generally well-tolerated on skin when used in appropriate concentrations, but it can cause mild irritation and redness, particularly when used in higher strengths or on sensitive skin types.
