Squalane Oil

INCI

Squalane

SUMMARY

Squalane is a lightweight emollient derived from squalene—a compound naturally found in human sebum and in plants like olives. In skincare, squalane is prized for its ability to hydrate, soften, and protect without leaving behind a greasy residue. Unlike its raw form squalene, which is prone to oxidation, squalane is hydrogenated to improve shelf stability and skin compatibility. It is commonly used in moisturizers, facial oils, serums, and hair products for its non-comedogenic, fast-absorbing properties and ability to restore suppleness to both skin and hair.

ORIGIN

Squalane used in skincare is often derived from olives grown in Mediterranean regions such as Spain, Italy, and Greece. These olives are cold-pressed and processed to isolate squalene, which is then converted into squalane for cosmetic use.

SKIN TOLERANCE

Squalane is considered non-irritating and safe for all skin types—including sensitive, acne-prone, and post-treatment skin.
